blue iris
and red rock grotto ~
our guide sings
of Tickle Cove Pond

Tickle Cove is a place on the island of Newfoundland. A 'tickle', in the local dialect, is a narrow passage of water. A 'pond' can be a large lake. The song is about a Newfoundlander who was hauling wood with his mare, Kit, late in the season and decided to a shortcut across the frozen pond. Our guide sang unaccompanied by the grotto; she had a beautiful voice.

You can listen to one version of Tickle Cove Pond here.   Sadly, it is not our guide singing.

Our guide's blog, Adventures on the Eastern Edge, is well worth a visit for views and stories of the Canadian maritime provinces.

a falcon fledgling
flew into a bright blue sky ...
reflected in a glass tower

Posted last May Facebook's NaHaiWriMo page (5/16/2012).

I have been watching online the peregrine falcon nest atop the Pacific Gas & Electric building in downtown San Francisco. There were four hatchlings. All have recently fledged. The following posting prompted my haiku: "May 15, 2012 - 4:03 pm. Amelia ran into the 29th floor of 201 Mission. She fell and died. We have retrieved her.... "

The other three are doing fine. This message tells a happier story: "We saw the boys playing in the sky this morning! It was brilliant game of talon tag. They are both flying well, testing their jet packs and maneuverability. Wonderful to see." Wed May 16, 2012 9:47 am.

[Added on 2/16/2013:  It must be getting close to time to check the nest out for this year's action.]
