Earlier this year ...

darkness descending
parking lot wreathed in ice fog
locked cars still running

It was January.  I had just arrived in Edmonton on sabbatical.  This was the scene I encountered when I went to the local Safeway to stock up on food--a lot full of parked cars all with their engines all still running.  It was minus 20, and the wind was blowing.  I didn't know yet that if you turned the car engine off, you might not be able to start it later.  I would learn.

Prompt was smoke/fog.
