 Posted last October ...

trees strewn like
matchsticks by the blast ...
beneath them, new life

This is from images in my memory from a visit to Mt. St. Helens a couple of years after the eruption. Scientists were amazed by how fast recovery began. Pocket gophers and elk were seen within weeks of the eruption. By summer, the slopes near the volcano abounded with fireweed.
